Scalzo named CHL Player of the Week
Toronto – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Rimouski Oceanic defenceman Mario Scalzo Jr. is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday February 13 after scoring three goals and nine assists for 12 points in four games.
Scalzo scored the winning goal and added two assists in Rimouski’s 4-3 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens on February 8. He added a goal and three assists in an 8-3 win over the Quebec Remparts on February 9, scored a goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over the Gatineau Olympiques on February 11 and finished the week with three assists in a 7-4 win over the Lewiston MAINEiacs on February 13. Scalzo helped the Oceanic extend their 16-game undefeated streak.
Pier-Olivier Pelletier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs was the QMJHL’s defensive player of the week after posting a 3-0-0 record with a shutout, 1.33 goals against average and .947 save percentage. Nigel Dawes of the Kootenay Ice was the WHL player of the week after scoring seven goals and eight points in four games and London Knights’ defenceman Danny Syvret was the OHL player of the week after scoring three goals and seven points in three games.
