Vaughan shuts out Hamilton to advance to OHL Cup
With a 4-0 win in a Wild Card play-in game over the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs, the GTHL’s Vaughan Kings advance to the 2023 OHL Cup.
With no goals by either side through the first period, Vaughan would score two in the second and two more in the third as Jack Fang, Carter Kostuch, Ewan McChesney, and Vasily Serov all lit the lamp for Vaughan. Goaltender Aleksei Medvedev made all 12 saves for the Kings as they shutout the Bulldogs.
Carter Kostuch discussed the victory and what it means to be a part of the 2023 OHL Cup Showcase saying, “As a team this is what we have been working towards all year. We had a tough loss to the Rebels in the playoffs, but we knew we had to bounce back. We came out hard tonight and we’re only just getting started.”
Logan Snyder received BARDOWN Player of the Game honours for Hamilton as he stopped 27 of Vaughan’s 31 shots in the contest.
As a result, Vaughan finds themselves as part of a tough Shanahan Division which features the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, York-Simcoe Express, Sun County Panthers and Thunder Bay Kings.
BARDOWN PLAYER OF THE GAME:
Vaughan – Carter Kostuch (F) – 1G, 1A
