Valentini leads Marlboros to victory with four-point performance
The Toronto Marlboros picked up their second victory of the 2024 OHL Cup presented by FPS Payment with a 5-1 win over the Niagara North Stars.
Jake DiCapo (1) opened the scoring for the Marlboros, however Niagara quickly responded with a goal courtesy of Easton Poirier (2). Undeterred, Toronto mounted a comeback with Callan Newton (1) regaining the lead for the Marlies. Building on the one goal advantage, Adam Valentini (3) added two more before Kayden Edwards (1) would register the game’s final marker.
Blocking 26 of the 27 shots he faced, Noah Mavin spoke on the team’s momentum heading into Day 3 of the tournament, “We need to play every game as if it’s the Championship, it’s do or die. We know we need to win our next game and the boys are ready.”
Adding a pair of assists on top of his two-goal contribution, Valentini (3) earned Player of the Game honours for Toronto, while Ty Daniels took home the honours for the Stars.
Niagara North (1-2-0) looks to find their way back into the win column, opening up Day 3 action at 8:00am versus Ottawa Myers Automotive (0-1-1). The Marlboros improve to 2-1 as they also prepare to face off against Ottawa at 3:30pm.
