Jr. Canadiens’ Jake O’Brien named 2023 OHL Cup MVP
Toronto Jr. Canadiens captain Jake O’Brien guided his club to OHL Cup supremacy, leading the showcase in scoring and has been awarded the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy, given annually to the Most Valuable Player of the U16 AAA Showcase.
“We fought through a lot of adversity throughout the year,” said O’Brien. “We didn’t win anything until now, but this is the most important and I’m so happy that we did it.
“My linemates were great, they got me the puck, and we did this together.”
O’Brien set a new Toronto Jr. Canadiens OHL Cup scoring record, putting up 17 points including seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points in seven games. He also led all players with a plus/minus rating of plus-13. His showcase featured six different multi-point performances including a goal and an assist in a 3-0 Championship Final victory over the Vaughan Kings.
O’Brien becomes the third Jr. Canadiens player to claim the honour, joining past recipients Dylan Robinson (2018) and John McFarland (2008).
