Hawery scores twice as Colts improve to 3-0
The OMHA champion Barrie Colts remain undefeated, picking up their third win of the 2024 OHL Cup presented by FPS Payment with a 3-2 win over the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks.
Elgin-Middlesex took an early lead with a goal from Tyran Lawson (1), but the Colts would swiftly take back the game with goals from Alex McLean (1) and Logan Hawery (2, 3). Despite the Canucks’ James MacGregor (1) leveling the score at 2-2, Barrie once again responded back as Hawery netted his second of the morning, leading the Colts to victory.
“I thought we started off a little slow but we got better as the game went on and got the win, that’s all that matters”, said Hawery, who wears the ‘C’ for Barrie.
Looking to clinch a perfect Round Robin record, the Colts Player of the Game further spoke on the team’s mindset heading into their final matchup, “We just have to play how we’ve been playing all year. Don’t change anything and stay consistent.”
Canucks goaltender Brandon Mancari took home Player of the Game honours for Elgin-Middlesex, stopping 32 of the 35 shots he faced.
The Canucks look to secure their first win of the tournament when they face off against the Mississauga Rebels at 5:30pm, while the Colts seek to maintain their perfect record in their last Round Robin showdown against Team NOHA.
