OHL Playoff Roundup: Saturday Night
Here are the results for 2011 OHL Playoff action on Saturday night:
Kitchener Rangers 2 vs. Plymouth Whalers 0
Mike Morrison was perfect in goal for the Kitchener Rangers making 40 saves as first star of his second straight start to force Game seven against the Plymouth Whalers.
Ryan Murphy got the game-winner at 7:06 of the second period on the power play.
Jerry D’Amigo put the game away into the empty cage with his fifth of the post-season with just 11 seconds remaining.
Scott Wedgewood made 35 saves despite the loss and was named the game’s third star.
Game seven will be played in Kitchener on Monday night.
Saginaw Spirit 5 vs. Guelph Storm 4
Vincent Trocheck scored the game-winner at 11:46 of the third period to break a 4-4 tie and put the Saginaw Spirit ahead 3-2 in their best-of-seven series against the Guelph Storm.
A back-and-forth game throughout the contest, Peter Holland opened the scoring for the Storm at 7:42 of the first period before John McFarland tied the score at 17:44 with one of three points on the night.
Spirit captain Jordan Szwarz also finished with three points netting two goals with his first of the night to open the second period at 4:36. Francis Menard continued his hot playoff streak with his fourth of the playoffs for the Storm at 7:07. Scott Kosmachuk and Josh Shalla traded goals to make the score 3-3 heading into the third.
Szwarz made it 4-3 at 5:16 with his third of the playoffs, while Daniel Erlich got the final Storm goal at 9:05.
Mavric Parks picked up the win 29 saves, while Brandon Foote took the loss with 26 saves.
Game six of the series will be played Sunday night in Guelph.
Owen Sound Attack 6 vs. London Knights 0
Michael Zador made 13 saves in his first playoff start for the Owen Sound Attack shutting the door on the London Knights 6-0 to take a 3-2 series lead before a sellout crowd of over 3600 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
After a scoreless first period the Attack exploded for four goals in the second frame beginning with a Gemel Smith goal at 2:19. Garrett Wilson, Robby Mignardi, and Liam Heelis built on the lead making it 4-0 after two.
First star of the game Mignardi netted his second of the game just 29 seconds into the third, before second star Andrew Shaw rounded out the scoring at 3:21.
Michael Houser allowed four goals on 28 shots in a little over half of the game and was relieved by Igor Bobkov who made 14 saves. Scott Stajcer finished the game for the Attack playing the final eight minutes of the game.
Game six of the series heads back to London on Sunday afternoon.
