Knights Meet Mooseheads On Tuesday

SASKATOON, SK – Max Domi and the London Knights face Jonathan Drouin and the Halifax Mooseheads for Game 5 of round robin action at the 2013 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament on Tuedday night in Saskatoon, SK. (6:00pm MT; 8:00pm ET Sportsnet).

The Knights, the OHL Champions, fell 6-3 to the WHL Champion Portland Winterhawks on Monday night, leaving all four teams with identical 1-1 record through the first four round robin contests.  It’s the second time in MasterCard Memorial Cup history and the second time in as many years that all four teams have skated to 1-1 records through their first two games.

The Knights, who opened the tournament with a win over the host Saskatoon Blades, fell behind 3-0 to the Winterhawks on Monday, but rallied back through the late stages of the second period and start of the third to tie the score.  However, they were victimized by two quick goals by Portland not long after tying it up en route to the loss.  Seth Griffith and Bo Horvat share the team scoring lead with a goal and three points apiece.

The QMJHL Champion Halifax Mooseheads suffered a 5-2 loss to the Blades on Sunday night after having opened with a win over the Winterhawks on Saturday.  After a wide-open affair on Saturday versus Portland, the Mooseheads weren’t able to get the time and space to let their offense take control in Sunday’s defeat to the physical, tight-checking Blades.  Nathan MacKinnon leads the Mooseheads and all players in the tournament with four goals through two games.

A victory by either team would allow them to avoid playing in Thursday’s tiebreaker and, depending on the outcome of Wednesday’s round-robin finale, could push them through to next Sunday’s Championship game.
