Attack Name Head Coach

The Owen Sound Attack announced today that they have hired Michael Stothers as their new Head Coach.

Stothers, a native of Toronto, spent last season as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Stothers played two seasons with the Kingston Canadians in the OHL before going on to a 10 year professional career. He played parts of four seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

After his playing career finished, Stothers joined the Hershey Bears (AHL) as an assistant coach and re-joined the Philadelphia organization in 1996 as an assistant with the Phantoms (AHL) under Bill Barber. He quickly moved through the ranks and in 1998 he joined the Philadelphia Flyers coaching staff.

During his coaching career Stothers has had an opportunity to learn from many of the top coaches in the NHL including Roger Neilson, Craig Ramsey and Barber, the Jack Adams winneras the NHL Coach of the Year in 2001.

“As a coach he is well respected around the NHL,” said Neilson, currently an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators. “He is conscientious and knowledgeable. He’s very good one-on-one with the players. Everyone that you talk to says the he can’t miss as a Head Coach.”

“Mike is an outstanding leader and communicator,” said Chris Therien of the Flyers. “Our loss in Philadelphia is your gain in Owen Sound. He will be a hit.”
