Sting Name New Assistant Coach

The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club today announced Greg Walters as their new assistant coach.

With the announcement, Walters ends a playing career that includes 575 games played in professional hockey. Most recently Walters was a player-associate coach with the Port Huron Bordercats of the UHL last season.

Walters enjoyed a successful career as a player in the OHL as he was a member of the Ottawa 67’s from 1987 – 1990 and was the captain for Brian Kilrea’s 67’s during the 1989-90 season. Following his OHL career, Walters was a fourth round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs (80th overall) in the 1990 NHL Draft.

Sting general manager Terry Doran looks to the playing experience of Walters to be an asset.

“I am very happy we are able to add someone with Greg’s experience,” said Doran. “His experience will be an asset to (head coach) Jeff (Perry), the players and the entire organization. His commitment to working with kids and relating his experience onto them was key. Development is essential at this level and I believe we have enhanced the resources for our players with the hiring of Greg.”
