CANADA 11, AUSTRIA 2
Western Hockey League standout Connor Bedard of the Regina Pats headlined an 11-goal outburst for Team Canada on Tuesday. The exceptional status forward became the youngest player in the history of the World Junior tournament to score four goals in a game.
Top OHL offensive contributors included Peterborough Petes forward Mason McTavish (Anaheim Ducks) with two goals and an assist, Saginaw Spirit grad Cole Perfetti (Winnipeg Jets) with a goal and two helpers, Windsor Spitfires winger Will Cuylle (NY Rangers) with two assists and Kingston Frontenacs forward Shane Wright with one assist.
Ottawa 67’s forward Vinzenz Rohrer picked up an assist on one of his squad’s two goals.
London Knights netminder Brett Brochu made 20 saves in the Canadian crease to earn the win as Canada outshot Austria 64-22.
Improving to 2-0, Canada returns to the ice on Wednesday to face Germany who sports a record of 1-1 following a thrilling overtime win over Czechia on Monday. Austria is off until Thursday when they face Czechia.
