Thursday Highlights: Palmu pushes Attack winning streak to 15 games

OWEN SOUND 3 – BARRIE 2 – OT
Petrus Palmu (27) scored on a breakaway 1:51 into overtime as the Owen Sound Attack defeated the Barrie Colts 3-2 on the road to win their 15th straight contest. Rookie forward Aidan Dudas (6) sent Palmu in alone with an up-ice feed, finishing the night with a goal and an assist to his credit. Cordell James (18) scored against his former club to help Owen Sound improve to 31-13-1-0, just four points back of first place London and Erie in the Midwest Division. Draft eligible blueliner Markus Phillips gathered a pair of assists as the Attack outshot Barrie 40-18. Goaltender David Ovsjannikov was a bright spot for the Colts, helping his club earn a point with a 37-save performance. Jason Smith (3) and Zach Magwood (12) found the back of the net as the Colts dropped their third straight decision.

SAGINAW 6 – HAMILTON 5
The Saginaw Spirit saw a 5-2 lead evaporate in the third period, but a late goal by Matthew Kreis (6) salvaged the effort as they took a 6-5 home ice victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs. Kreis jumped on a Hamilton turnover at the offensive blue line, potting the difference maker with just 1:33 left on the clock as Saginaw won their third straight game. Sophomore forward Cole Coskey (8, 9) led the way with two goals and an assist while D.J. Busdeker (4), Brady Gilmour (17) and Hayden Hodgson (28) also tallied. C.J. Garcia and Damien Giroux each had a pair of assists while Brendan Bonello got the win in goal as the Spirit close the gap to two points behind eighth place Flint in the Western Conference. Niki Petti (10), Matt Luff (16), Marian Studenic (8), Will Bitten (18) and Brandon Saigeon (9) scored for the Bulldogs, who fell just short to begin a three game weekend road trip. Hamilton currently leads Kingston by one point for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
