Thursday Highlights: Otters outlast Troops in shootout marathon
ERIE 4, NORTH BAY 3 – SO
It took a 12-round shootout for the Erie Otters and host North Bay Battalion to settle the score on Thursday. Goaltender Daniel Murphy built off a 25-save performance, stopping 10 of the 12 shootout opponents he faced while rookie Brendan Sellan lifted the Otters to a 4-3 win. Danial Singer and Maxim Golod also scored shootout markers for the Otters, who win for the sixth time in the past seven games. Chad Yetman (8) and Gera Poddubnyi (7) put the Otters ahead 2-0 before North Bay took a 3-2 lead. Sophomore forward Joseph Mack (3) tied the score with 35 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. The Troops earn a point thanks to a 39-save effort from Christian Purboo before he turned away nine shootout opponents. Justin Brazeau (17, 18) continued his outstanding season with a pair of goals while Brandon Coe (4) also capitalized. Erie improves to 7-7-1-0 while North Bay sits at 8-7-0-1. The shootout is the fifth-longest in OHL history as the Otters collect their fifth extra point in six games.

BARRIE 3, SARNIA 2 – OT
Veteran forward Lucas Chiodo (11) scored with 1:24 left in overtime as the Barrie Colts edged the Sarnia Sting 3-2 on the road. Down 2-1, the Colts got a tying goal from Aidan Brown (2) with 2:32 left in the third period before Chiodo banged in the winner. Luke Bignell (4) also scored for Barrie while Matej Pekar and Joey Keane each had two assists. The chippy affair saw the two clubs go a combined 0-for-12 on the power play. Barrie’s Maksim Zhukov collected the win with 26 saves while Sarnia’s Ethan Langevin helped his team earn a point with 30 stops. Hugo Leufvenius (7, 8) accounted for both Sting goals in the loss while Adam Ruzicka recorded a pair of assists. Barrie improves to 9-6-1-0 while Sarnia sees a three-game winning streak snapped, falling to 7-6-2-0.

PETERBOROUGH 3, OSHAWA 2 – OT
The Peterborough Petes were victorious in plaid on Thursday, defeating the rival Oshawa Generals 3-2 on a Pavel Gogolev (5) game winner 38 seconds into overtime. Declan Chisholm picked up his third assist of the night on the winner as Peterborough outshot Oshawa 51-21 to claim victory. Chris Paquette (8) and Nick Isaacson (7) added Peterborough goals while goaltender Hunter Jones made 19 saves. Oshawa netminder Kyle Keyser was a big reason his team was able to earn a point as he turned aside 48 shots behind goals from Kyle Bollers (1) and Nando Eggenberger (5). Bollers and Peterborough’s Max Grondin debuted for their respective clubs. The Petes climb to 10-7-0-0 while Oshawa falls to 8-5-2-0.

Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month Cedrick Andree stopped all 26 shots he faced for his first OHL shutout as the Ottawa 67’s started their weekend road trip with a 1-0 win in Windsor. Ottawa’s 10th win in 11 games came behind a third period game winner from Tye Felhaber (17) as Austen Keating and Lucas Peric drew assists. Windsor’s Michael DiPietro was nearly flawless, making 19 saves of his own. The 67’s capture a CHL-best 13th win while Windsor falls to 6-9-0-1.

NIAGARA 3, MISSISSAUGA 1
The Niagara IceDogs skated to a fifth straight win as reigning Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week Stephen Dhillon stopped 35 of 36 in a 3-1 home ice win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Dhillon also provided a penalty shot denial of Mississauga’s Cole Schwindt in the third period. Kyen Sopa (9), Andrew Bruder (1) and Ben Jones (6) lit the lamp as Niagara improved to a Central Division-leading 10-4-2-0. Cole Carter (14) scored the lone goal for Mississauga while Jacob Ingham made 31 saves in defeat. The Steelheads fall to 8-5-2-0 with their fourth straight loss.
