Sunday Highlights: Wolves wrap-up perfect road trip

 

SUDBURY 3, KITCHENER 2 – OT
2019 NHL Draft prospect Blake Murray (2) scored on a feed from Kirill Nizhnikov 49 seconds into overtime as the Sudbury Wolves won their fifth straight contest, wrapping up a perfect 3-0 weekend on the road. Sudbury edged the Kitchener Rangers 3-2, overcoming a 2-0 deficit as Darian Pilon (3) and Nizhnikov (2) also had goals. Sudbury outshot Kitchener 37-32 as goaltender Ukka-Pekka Luukkonen made 30 saves to improve to 5-0 on the season. Jack York (1) and Riley Damiani (3) had goals for the Rangers as they fell to 4-0-2-0. The Wolves climb to 6-2 atop the Central Division, capturing their first five-game winning streak since December 2013.

HAMILTON 5, WINDSOR 2
Rookie goaltender Zach Roy dazzled in his OHL debut, making 42 saves as the Hamilton Bulldogs took a 5-2 win in Windsor. Roy’s fine play paced the Bulldogs to victory despite the fact that they were outshot 44-24. Liam Van Loon (1), MacKenzie Entwistle (2), Ben Garagan (1), Liam Stevens (3) and Matthew Strome (2) scored Hamilton goals while rookie Avery Hayes had two assists. Spitfires veteran Cole Purboo (2, 3) scored both goals in the loss. Hamilton sits second in the East Division with a 4-2-1-0 record while Windsor falls back to .500 at 3-3.

OTTAWA 6, SAULT STE. MARIE 2
Tye Felhaber (6, 7) and Austen Keating (3) each had three points while rookie Marco Rossi (3) continued his faceoff dominance, netting a goal and an assist in the process. The Ottawa 67’s poured it on against visiting Sault Ste. Marie, taking a 6-2 win as Quinn Yule (3) and Kody Clark (3) also capitalized. Blueliner Merrick Rippon notched two assists and finished as a plus-5 on the afternoon while Cedrick Andree stopped 28 of 30 shots in goal. Roman Pucek (2) and Morgan Frost (4) scored for the Hounds as they fell to 3-3-1-0 to close out the weekend road trip. The 67’s improve to 5-3.

BARRIE 4, KINGSTON 2
The OHL’s leading goal-scorer Jason Robertson (7, 8) popped in a couple more but his Kingston Frontenacs were outdone by the visiting Barrie Colts in a 4-2 loss. Barrie’s Tyler Tucker had a goal and an assist while fellow blueliner Joey Keane scored the game winner 4:32 into the third period. Tyson Foerster (1) and Lucas Chiodo (6) also tallied for Barrie while netminder Maksim Zhukov turned aside 38 shots. Kingston’s Ryan Dugas took the loss with a 28-save showing as the Frontenacs suffered their third straight defeat, falling to 2-5. The Colts improve to 3-3-1-0.
