Storm’s Phillips signs with Kings
Los Angeles, CA – The LA Kings have signed defenseman Markus Phillips to a three-year entry-level contract, Kings Vice President and General Manager Rob Blake announced today.
The 20-year-old (born on March 21, 1999) is a 6-0, 202-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, who appeared in 62 regular-season games this year in the Ontario Hockey League between the Guelph Storm and Owen Sound Attack, posting 26 points (5-21=26), a plus-17 rating and 48 penalty minutes.
He has two goals (2-0=2) in 18 games through the first three rounds of the OHL playoffs with the Storm. He, along with recent Kings signee Sean Durzi, will play the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL finals starting on Thursday, May 2.
Selected by the Kings in the fourth-round (118th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Phillips has appeared in 259 career regular-season OHL games between Guelph and Owen Sound, recording 120 points (31-89=120), a plus-56 rating and 148 penalty minutes.
In 51 postseason games, he has registered 10 points (2-8=10), a plus-2 rating and 24 penalty minutes.
He also represented Team Canada at the U20 World Junior tournament this year, posting three points (0-3=3), a plus-4 rating and six penalty minutes in five games.
