OHL mourns the loss of Jacob Winterton

The OHL is saddened by news of the passing of former Flint Firebirds and Oshawa Generals forward Jacob Winterton, taken far too soon following a battle with cancer at the age of 25.

Winterton spent two seasons in the OHL, playing with the Firebirds during the 2018-19 season before spending the 2019-20 campaign with the Generals. He put together 18 goals, 19 assists and 37 points over 125 regular season games.

From Whitby, Winterton played his U16 AAA and U18 AAA hockey as a member of the Ajax-Pickering Raiders program, being selected by Flint in the 10th round (189th overall) of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

Following his time in the OHL, he went on to play four seasons of U SPORTS men’s hockey at the University of Guelph where he was enrolled in their Real Estate program.

Winterton’s younger brother, Ryan, followed Jacob into the OHL where he played with the Hamilton Bulldogs and London Knights, and is now a member of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.
