Knights’ Austin Elliott commits to the University of Massachusetts Lowell
London Knights goaltender Austin Elliott has committed to UMass Lowell, announced earlier this week.
Elliott made OHL history this season, winning each of his first 20 starts in the league, four wins shy of the OHL’s all-time winning streak by a goaltender set by Ray LeBlanc of the Kitchener Rangers in 1983-84. Elliott took his first loss of the season on Sunday in Windsor, and owns an overall tally of 20-1-0-0 with a 2.36 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and two shutouts.
A native of Strathmore, AB, the 20-year-old netminder was claimed off waivers by the OHL’s Barrie Colts from the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades and then was traded to the Knights on Oct. 17.
In 85 regular season games for the Blades, Elliott posted a .906 save percentage, a 2.37 goals-against average, and six shutouts.
Located in Lowell, Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts Lowell has produced several NHL alumni, including four-time Stanley Cup champion Craig McTavish and former NHL All-Star Dwayne Roloson.
The UMass Lowell River Hawks men’s ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I program that represents the university. The River Hawks are a member of Hockey East, joining the conference in 1984 and becoming a consistent contender in college hockey.
