The Nashville Predators acquired Soo Greyhounds blueliner Andrew Gibson in a Tuesday move with the Detroit Red Wings, adding the 6-foot-4 presence to their depth chart.
Nashville dealt a second round pick in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft along with Finnish right-winger Jesse Kiiskinen to Detroit in exchange for Gibson. Kiiskinen, 18, appeared in 36 games for the Lahti Pelicans of the Finnish Elite League in 2023-24, recording four goals, six assists and 10 points.
Gibson, 19, played big minutes for the Greyhounds this past season, registering 12 goals, 32 assists and 44 points over 68 regular season games. He added a pair of assists in 11 playoff outings as the Hounds reached Game 7 of the second round of the OHL Playoffs against eventual Memorial Cup champion Saginaw.
Formerly chosen by the Red Wings in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft, Gibson hails from LaSalle, Ont. and has accumulated 19 goals, 46 assists and 65 points over 119 OHL regular season games. He signed a three-year entry-level NHL contract with the Red Wings on Apr. 28, 2024.
Gibson is a former NOJHL champion and Defenceman of the Year after being chosen by the Greyhounds in the fourth round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He won a bronze medal with Canada’s National Under-18 Team at the IIHF U18 Worlds in 2023.
