Ontario Hockey League linesperson Justin Herrington officiated the final game of his OHL career on Saturday night, closing out a 12-season run as an on-ice official.
Herrington worked the matchup between the Brampton Steelheads and the Barrie Colts, bringing his OHL officiating career to a close in Barrie.
Prior to puck drop, the OHL held a brief on-ice recognition to honour Herrington’s service to the league. OHL Officiating Manager Scott Oakman presented Herrington with an award of recognition. Herrington was joined on the ice by his spouse, Taylor, and children Hunter and Hailey, who were also acknowledged in appreciation of their support throughout his officiating career.
Over 12 seasons, Herrington officiated 319 OHL regular-season games and 30 OHL playoff games. His career included several notable assignments, highlighted by working the 2019 Memorial Cup in Halifax, Nova Scotia, along with multiple Canada-Russia Series game assignments.
“He’s been a consistent and reliable official for our league for more than a decade,” said OHL director of officiating Conrad Hache. “Justin earned the respect of players, coaches, and his fellow officials through his professionalism and preparation every night.”
