2016 OHL Combine opens with off-ice testing
The Ontario Hockey League hosted the first day of the seventh annual OHL Development Combine powered by Under Armour on Friday at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, ON.
96 players (48 forwards, 32 defencemen, and 16 goaltenders) born in 2000 had the opportunity to showcase their off-ice athleticism to OHL member team personnel with results distributed to every OHL member team General Manager to assist in their evaluation for the OHL Priority Selection to be held on Saturday April 9, 2016.
“For some of these players, they haven’t played in the OHL Cup or their team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, so this weekend is their one last chance to show an OHL member team what they can do on and off the ice,” said Joe Birch, OHL Senior Director of Hockey Development and Special Events. “It’s a great opportunity for the players to showcase their athletic abilities and is a big evaluation opportunity for our members teams.”
Off-ice drills included Vertical Jump, Broad Jump, Right/Left hand Grip, 20M Sprint, Pro Agility Right/Left, Medicine Ball Toss, and Wingate Peak Power.
