Greyhounds acquire Blues prospect Lukas Fischer from Sting in multi-asset trade
The Soo Greyhounds have acquired St. Louis Blues prospect Lukas Fischer from the Sarnia Sting in a significant West Division trade that also sees 18-year-old defenceman Hunter Solomon and a package of draft picks heading the other way.
As part of the transaction, the Greyhounds receive defenceman Lukas Fischer, while the Sting acquire Solomon along with five OHL Priority Selection picks:
• 2026 2nd-round pick (Kingston)
• 2027 4th-round pick (Peterborough)
• 2028 4th-round pick (Sault Ste. Marie)
• 2027 6th-round pick (Oshawa)
• 2029 3rd-round pick (Sault Ste. Marie)
Fischer, 19, joins the Greyhounds after serving as captain of the Sting for the past two seasons. The Brighton, MI native was originally a late-round success story, selected in the 11th round of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, before developing into one of the league’s most reliable and competitive defenders. Across 192 career regular-season games, Fischer has produced 27 goals and 72 assists for 99 points.
A second-round pick (56th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2024 NHL Draft, Fischer signed a three-year entry-level contract with the organization this past March.
“As we looked to solidify our blue line, we didn’t want to wait when a player like Lukas became available,” said Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis. “He’s a smart defender who competes extremely hard. Lukas can move pucks efficiently, jump into the rush, and we believe he’ll be a strong fit for our group.”
Fischer is expected to make his Greyhounds debut on Wednesday, December 10, when the club hosts the Kitchener Rangers.
Going the other way, the Sting added a key young piece in Hunter Solomon, a 2007-born right-shot defenceman from Guelph, ON. The 6-foot-1, 192-pound blueliner has been a player Sarnia targeted throughout discussions.
“Hunter is a player we really wanted included in this trade,” said Sting General Manager Dylan Seca. “We see leadership, character, passion, competitiveness — he checks all the boxes. He will complement our back end and is someone we believe we can win with.”
Solomon is NHL Draft eligible and appears on the NHL Central Scouting Watch List. Known for his poise and competitiveness, he provides the Sting with an immediate young contributor, along with long-term upside.
Fischer departs Sarnia after serving as a two-time captain and an important part of the organization’s identity.
“Lukas has been a significant player and leader for us,” Seca added. “This move gives him the opportunity to join a team with a chance to contend. We’re grateful for everything he’s given our program.”
Sarnia’s return package also bolsters its future draft capital, providing additional flexibility as the club continues to reshape its roster.
“This trade sets us up for the now and the future,” Seca concluded. “We remain committed to improving our team today while building for the years ahead.”
