Petes Sign Head Coach Rob Wilson to Three-Year Contract Extension
Peterborough, ON – General Manager Michael Oke announced today that the Petes have signed Head Coach Rob Wilson to a three-year contract extension that kicks in during the 2021-22 season and concludes at the end of the 2023-24 season.
“We’re excited to have Rob behind the bench for three more years,” says GM Oke. “Last year, we were poised to take a serious run at the OHL championship and Memorial Cup. He has done a terrific job with developing our players and preparing them to play at the next level. Rob’s strengths includes implementing effective in-game strategies, the ability to adjust systems as required, and communicating with players and staff.”
“I really enjoyed my time coaching here and I think it’s really exciting with the steps and progress we’ve made over the last few years,” says Head Coach Wilson. “We have a very young group here and the next few years are going to be really exciting. I’d like to thank Mike and the Board of Directors for giving me the opportunity and the tools I need to work with to succeed in Peterborough.”
Since being named as the club’s 23rd Head Coach in May 2018, Wilson has compiled a 70-52-4-4 record, clinching the playoffs in his first two seasons behind the bench with the maroon and white. In December 2019, Wilson was named Head Coach of Team Red for the 2020 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Hamilton, Ontario.
Prior to the Petes, Wilson served as Head Coach of the DEL’s Nuremberg Ice Tigers from 2015-2018, coaching to a 97-43-0-8 record. The former defenceman and Toronto, Ontario native played for the Petes during the 1988-89 season after being acquired from the Sudbury Wolves. He helped the team capture the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions that season before embarking on a pro playing career that included stops in various North American and European leagues.
