Hometown product Jake Karabela commits to Storm
(Guelph) General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett announced today that the Guelph Storm have received a commitment from Jake Karabela and his family and have signed a Standard Player Agreement with the club.
Karabela, a 5’10.5″, 155 lbs forward from Guelph, Ontario, was the 32nd overall pick in the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.
“The Guelph Storm are excited to announce the signing of Guelph Minor Midget product Jake Karabela to a Standard Player’s Agreement,” Burnett said. “Jake is a gifted two way forward that plays the game with pace, can create offensively through his ability to see the ice and the ability to finish on his own. It is always unique when an organization is able to add a young homegrown player. We look forward to working with Jake and his family as he continues on this journey here in Guelph.”
The 2004-born Karabela is a product of the Guelph Minor Midget AAA program in the SCTA. During his 2019-20 season, Karabela posted 45 goals, 42 assists and 87 points in 62 games with the Jr. Gryphons.
“I want to thank the Storm for giving me the chance to pursue my dream in Guelph,” Karabela said. “All members of the organization have been very welcoming and positive and I can’t wait to hit the ice. I definitely didn’t think I’d be training in my garage but I will do whatever I can to be ready for the season.”
