Wolves Reduce Roster
The Sudbury Wolves have reduced their active roster today down to 25 players today by reassigning goaltender Michael Muzyka and right winger Dylan Callaghan to the Sudbury Nickel Barons Jr. A team of the NOJHL.
Muzyka, 17, played for the Barons last season while Callaghan was called-up to play for the Nickel Barons last season. Both players are Sudbury residents and both players will remain with the Wolves’ organization this season as affiliated players.
“Michael played very well on Friday against the Soo and he is definitely an important part of our future” notes Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith. “With Franky returning from pro camp we have a crowded crease right now and Michael will be able to play a good number of junior games with the Barons and continue to progress and develop his goaltending skills.”
“Dylan has also performed well and he will benefit by playing significant minutes with the Nickel Barons” adds Smith. “We now have Kubalik, Baptiste, Schmalz and Huether on the right-side so we are pretty deep at that position right now. We see Dylan as a quality call-up for us this season and a player that will progress onto our roster due to his gritty style of play.”
With overage defenceman Kevin Raine away at pro camp and veteran forward Brody Silk sidelined for the long-term, the Wolves active roster has effectively been reduced to 25 players including 3 goaltenders. In addition, veteran forwards Nathan Cull and Danny Desrochers will miss games due to carry-over suspensions incurred in last year’s play-off against Belleville.
The Wolves will play a home-and-home with the Soo Greyhounds to open the season beginning Friday night at 7:30 at the Sudbury Arena. The game is sponsored by BELL and it will be the first installment of the BELL CHALLENGE CUP. There are plenty of great seats available for Friday night’s big contest to open the season.
