WOLVES NAME NEW CAPTAINS
he Sudbury Wolves organization is very proud to name Marcus Foligno as
the team’s new captain. The Sudbury native is playing in his 4th
consecutive season with the Sudbury Wolves and is off to a great start
with 18 points in his first 13 games.
“I am extremely honoured and proud to be named captain of the Sudbury
Wolves” notes the 6’3″, 215 lb forward. “My family has a great
history with the Sudbury Wolves and I’m proud to be concluding my OHL
career as captain of the Sudbury Wolves.”
The Buffalo Sabres prospect has followed in the steps of older brother
Nick who was a former assistant captain of the Wolves in 2006-07.
Marcus’father Mike Foligno was a former captain of the Wolves back
in the 70’s.
“I learned a lot from John Kurtz last year” notes Foligno. “John was a
terrific leader for us and I will try and achieve the standard that he
set for our organization last season.” Kurtz was a winner of
the MICKEY RENAUD MEMORIAL TROPHY, which recognizes the best team
captain in the OHL.
Wolves’ Head Coach Trent Cull also announced his assistant captains:
John McFarland, Ben Chiarot and Mike Lomas.
“I began the season with a clean slate and I wanted to see who would be
the best leaders for this team” notes Cull. “Marcus has proven that he
is a great leader by being one of our best players on and off the ice.
He is well-respected and admired by his teammates and our entire
organization.”
Cull points out that the assistant captains are equally important to the
leadership of the group. “Mike Lomas, 20, has been a pleasant surprise
since his arrival here and works extremely hard in practice and in
games. Ben Chiarot, 19, is a big, strong defenceman who stands-up for his
teammates. John McFarland, 18, is our youngest captain and is a dynamic
player and a natural leader.”
Previous captains of the Wolves include NHL stars: MIKE FISHER (Ottawa)
DEREK MACKENZIE (Columbus), ZACH STORTINI (Edmonton) & MARC STAAL
(NY Rangers).
The new Wolves’ captains will begin their tenure tonight when the Wolves
host the Plymouth Whalers at 7:30.
