Wolves fall to the Knights
The Sudbury Wolves travelled to London on Friday for their first road trip of the 2011 – 2012 season. Despite an early jump, the Wolves could not contain the Knight fire power and went on to lose the contest by a final score of 8 – 2.
The Wolves were the first to the scoreboard early in the first period when MATHEW CAMPAGNA (unassisted) scored his first goal on the seaon, a shorthanded marker, giving the Pack an early 1 – 0 lead. The Knights evened things up a few minutes later when Seth Griffith notched his third goal this season on the powerplay. MICHAEL SGARBOSSA (FRANK CORRADO, ANDREY KUCHIN) netted a powerplay goal at 17:53 to give the Wolves a 2 – 1 lead into the first intermission.
The Knights offensive power ignited and they would go on to score 7 unanswered goals between the second and third periods, including one goal on a penalty shot, and a hatrick from Ryan Rupert.
The Wolves continued to press, however, they were no longer able to solve the Knights netminder, Michael Houser, who made 31 saves for the win. Wolves goaltender BRENDAN O’NEILL made 29 saves for the tough loss.
One of the busiest of the Wolves personnel was trainer DAN BUCKLAND as JACOB HARRIS suffered a check to the head in the first period from Kyle Flemington, and ALEX RACINO was hit hard along the boards in the second period. Already absent from the game due to injuries were JOHAN MATTSSON, JOEL VIENNEAU, JOSH LEIVO, JEFF CORBETT. Also not in the lineup was CHARLIE DODERO, JOSH MCFADDEN, and BRANDON SCOTT.
The Wolves will look to rebound on Saturday night as they head to Sarnia to take on the Sting. Game time is 7:00pm. Tune into the live call by Stew Kernan on the KFM 95.5 cybercast.
