Dmitry Dominates
The Sudbury Wolves road the coat-tails of Russian sniper Dmitry Sokolov on Saturday night and up-ended the Peterborough Petes by a score of 6-3. Sokolov, 17, showed why the Wolves selected him 3rd overall in the 2015 CHL Import draft by scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist for a four-point night. It could have been worse for the Petes as Sokolov rang a shot off of the cross-bar in the dieing seconds of the first period and also hit the iron on two other occasions. Sokolov has been highly-touted for the upcoming NHL draft and the native of Siberia showed why against the Petes.
Alan Lysczarczyk also had a big game with three points as the Polish forward set-up Sokolov with a nifty pass for his first goal of the game. Lysczarczyk is showing why the Wolves signed the New Jersey youngster as a free agent in August and he along with Sokolov have developed into the Wolves top prospects for the upcoming NHL draft.
Kyle Capobianco was outstanding on this night as well as the Arizona Coyotes prospect had three assists and showed his outstanding speed and offensive instincts throughout the contest. Capobianco leads the Wolves in defensive scoring with 38 points and he is just two points behind last years totals.
Troy Timpano had a bounce-back game making 47 saves. Timpano, 18, made a number of key saves in particular on the penalty kill to back-stop the Wolves to victory. Timpano is expected to get his third consecutive start in goal today in Kingston.
The Wolves are back in action at home on Friday, March 4th when they host the Owen Sound Attack.
