Wolves Out-Battled by Fronts
The Wolves were in Kingston Sunday afternoon to wrap up their Eastern road swing with their third game in as many days. Coming into Sunday’s game, the Wolves had 1 win and 1 lose on the weekend after falling to the 67’s Friday before rebounding Saturday against the Petes. The Wolves were hoping to use some of the momentum from Saturday’s game to help carry them over the first place team in the East, however the Frontenacs out-battled the Wolves to take a 5-1 victory over the Wolfpack.
The Wolves trailed the Frontenacs by two goals after the opening period of play. Wolves’ goaltender Troy Timpano made a number of key saves in the game to keep the game close.
The Frontenacs made it 4-0 in their favour, before Mikkel Aagaard put the Wolves on the board with less than 5 minutes remaining in the second period. However that was as close as the Wolves came as the Frontenacs added one more goal in the third to take the 5-1 victory. Dmitry Sokolov and Alan Lyszczarczyk picked up the assists on Aagaard’s 23rd goal of the season. Timpano was very busy in net for the Wolves as final shots on goal were 57 to 27 in favour of the Fronts.
Sunday’s match-up had little in the way of special teams as the Wolves were 0 for 1 on their powerplay opportunities, while Kingston was 1 for 2.
The Wolves now head home and are back in action at the Sudbury Arena on Friday March 4th when they host the Owen Sound Attack for the one and only time this season at 7:00pm. Tickets are on sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office, by calling 705-671-3000 or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
