Wolves Tie a Franchise Record With 4-2 Win Over Steelheads
(SUDBURY, ON) — The Sudbury Wolves continued their strong start to the 2026–27 regular season on Sunday, September 27, welcoming the Brampton Steelheads to the Sudbury Community Arena.
The Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the opening period before both teams traded goals in the second and third. Sudbury added a late insurance marker to secure a 4-2 victory and improve to 4-0-0 to start the season.
Wolves Strike Twice in the First
After a scoreless opening 10 minutes, the Wolves opened the scoring as Norman Greene (1) found the back of the net to give Sudbury a 1-0 lead, with Parker Smith (2) and Artem Gonchar (1) recording the assists.
Four minutes later, Rowan Henderson (3) assisted by Mason Walker (3) and Kingston Harris (4) doubled the Wolves’ advantage on the power play, sending Sudbury into the first intermission with a 2-0 lead.
The Wolves outshot the Steelheads 14-6 in the opening period.
Henderson Adds a Shorthanded Goal
Sudbury extended its lead in the second period while playing shorthanded.
Henderson (4) scored his second goal of the afternoon on an assist from Blake Clayton (3) to put the Wolves up 3-0.
Brampton answered on a 5-on-3 power play, as captain Troy Patton (2) cut the deficit to 3-1. Nathan Amidovski (3) and Peter Green (4) were credited with assists.
The Wolves carried a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Steelheads Cut Into the Lead
The Steelheads continued to push in the third period and pulled within one with just over five minutes remaining.
Patton (3) scored his second goal of the afternoon on the power play to make it a 3-2 game. Carter Hicks (3) and Stepan Kuryachenkov (1) recorded assists on the goal.
Sudbury responded late, with Genc Ula (1) finding the back of the net with just over a minute remaining to restore the Wolves’ two-goal lead.
The Wolves held on from there to secure the 4-2 victory.
Between the Pipes
Paolo Frasca got the start in goal for the Wolves and turned aside 22 of the 24 shots he faced.
Brampton goaltender Neilan Johnson made 27 saves on 31 shots.
