Wolves Fall Under Fire in Flint
The Wolves kicked off their Western Conference road swing Friday night in Flint as they visited the Firebirds for the one and only time this season. The Wolves came out strong as they were up 2-1 after forty minutes, but couldn’t keep it going as the Firebirds scored three goals in the third to take the game by a 4-2 final.
Liam Dunda struck first late in the first period to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Macauley Carson and C.J. Yakimowicz assisted on the play. Play was tight between both teams throughout the period. The Wolves led shots on goal 9-8 after the opening period.
Kyle Capobianco extended the Wolves lead midway through the second to take a 2-0 lead, however the Firebirds closed the gap with a powerplay goal from Ty Dellandrea with 15 seconds remaining. Flint outshot the Wolves 17-8 in the second period.
In the third, the Firebirds scored three unanswered goals to clinch the game with a 4-2 final. Jalen Smereck tied up the game with 7 minutes remaining in the third. Maurizio Corlella scored the go-ahead goal for the Firebirds four minutes later. Ryan Moore then scored an empty net goal with 21 seconds remaining to clinch the win. Final shots on goal were 48 to 30 in favour of the Firebirds.
