Wolves Fall to Battalion in North Bay
The Sudbury Wolves traveled down Highway 17 to face off against their rivals, the North Bay Battalion Thursday night. Despite a two goal night for David Levin, the Battalion came out strong, and found ways to answer back, skating away with a 6-3 victory over the Wolves.
The Battalion came out hard during the first period, scoring three unanswered goals against the Wolves. The goals started on the power play, as ZACH POIRIER beat JAKE MCGRATH to give the Battalion a 1-0 lead. Exactly two minutes later, BRETT MCKENZIE scored top-shelf on a rebound, to extend their lead. MAX KISLINGER went five hole to make it 3-0, where it would stay for the remainder of the period. The Wolves had a number of quality chances, however couldn’t catch a break as they had a goal waved off after a scrum in front of Battalion goaltender.
A five-on-three for the Wolves helped get the team back in the game, as DAVID LEVIN scored with a beautiful slap shot. The goal allowed the Wolves to gain some momentum, leading to multiple good chances. MACAULEY CARSON went five-hole on BRENT MORAN to cut the lead to 3-2 with 2:04 left in the period. As time dwindled down, JUSTIN BRAZEAU released a quick shot that beat MCGRATH, which allowed the Battalion to restore a two-goal lead.
Only 47 seconds into the third period, ADAM MCMASTER scored to make it 5-2 for the Battalion. The Wolves continued to push forward, as DAVID LEVIN scored his second of the game at 15:32. With the Wolves net empty, for the extra attacker, the Battalion added another goal to seal the deal. The Wolves fell by a 6-3 final with shots on goal 38-33 in favour of the Battalion. Dmitry Sokolov picked up two assists in the game.
The Wolves are back at home Friday night when they face off against the Saginaw Spirit at 7:00pm. This will be the Spirit’s one and only visit to Sudbury this season.
