Wolves Blank Colts
The Sudbury Wolves played their second game at home in as many nights when they welcomed another division rival, the Barrie Colts to the Sudbury Arena on Saturday. In a classic Sudbury Saturday night match-up, the Wolves took a decisive 3-0 shut-out victory over the Colts.
The Wolves sported their green jerseys for the third time this season. It was classic Sudbury Saturday Night hockey between the two rivals with rough play from both sides. JAKE MCGRATH was busy throughout the opening period stopping all 21 of the shots on net that he faced. In wasn’t until the last three minutes of the period that someone broke the ice. DMITRY SOKOLOV scored his 19th of the season to put the Wolves on the board. The Wolves were up 1-0 with shots on goal 21-4 in favour of the Colts.
The Wolves continued their stellar play in the second period, outshooting the Colts 19-12. MACAULEY CARSON and DAVID LEVIN both landed a number of big hits in the period. KYLE CAPOBIANCO put the Wolves up 2-0 midway through the period. Seconds later, DARIAN PILON notched his seventh of the season, extending the Wolves lead to 3-0.
In the third, MCGRATH continued to be a force to be reckoned with between the pipes for the Wolves. Back to back penalties for the Colts allowed the Wolves to keep the momentum on their side. The Wolves held the Colts off of the score sheet as MCGRATH earned his first shutout of his Ontario Hockey League career.
The Wolves took the game by a 3-0 final with shots on goal 44-32 in favour of the Colts. JAKE MCGRATH, KYLE CAPOBIANCO and REAGAN O’GRADY were named the first three stars respectively.
The Wolves continue their four-game home stretch Friday night when the host the Flint Firebirds at 7:00pm. Next weekend will be another double header weekend as the Wolves host the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday night for the annual Teddy Beat Toss at 7:00pm.
