Wolves Bite Colts to Get Back in Win Column
The Sudbury Wolves traveled down Highway 400 Saturday night to take on their Central Division rivals, the Barrie Colts. The Wolves worked hard all game and in the process snapped a three game losing streak by beating the Colts 4-1.
The Wolves came out of the gates flying in the first period, playing with lots of energy. After ZACK BOWMAN made an incredible save at one end of the ice, DMITRY SOKOLOV made a great play at the other end to open the scoring. Just over half way through the opening frame, a shot from CONOR ALI was redirected into the net by DARIAN PILON to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead. After a fiery first period between the two teams, the shots on net sat 13-13 a piece.
Penalty trouble allowed the Colts to gain some momentum in the second as the Wolves took four of the five penalties in the period. Seconds after COLE MAYO‘s hooking penalty expired, TOM HEDBERG scored for the Colts to cut the lead to one. Just 17 seconds later, the Wolves retook their two goal lead as REAGAN O’GRADY fed DAVID LEVIN to make it 3-1.
The Wolves held on in the third period to keep the Colts off of the scoresheet. The penalty kill continued to be important as LIAM DUNDA, AIDAN JAMIESON and LEVIN each took minor penalties. BOWMAN continued to make great saves for the Wolves, earning himself first star honours. With 1:11 left in the game, DUNDA scored on the empty net to seal the deal for the Wolves. The Wolves won by a 4-1 final, with shots on net 35-28 in favour of the Colts.
The Wolves are back at home next Friday night, when they welcome the London Knights for the only time this season. Puck drop is 7:00pm and this game is sponsored by CAA. To purchase tickets, visit the Sudbury Arena Box Office, call 705-671-3000 or visit greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
