Wolves Attack!
The Owen Sound Attack visited the Sudbury Arena for the only time this season Friday night. The Wolves welcomed familiar faces MATT SCHMALZ and TRENTON BOURQUE but it was Wolves newcomer CJ YAKIMOWICZ who stole the show and lead the Wolves to soundly beating the Attack 4-1.
The Wolves came out flying in the first period scoring three goals. LIAM DUNDA struck first after MACAULEY CARSON made a great play in front of the net. Minutes later, the Attack responded with a goal from NICK SUZUKI, with the second assist going to former Wolf MATT SCHMALZ. Two quick goals, 8 seconds apart, from Captain KYLE CAPOBIANCO and RYAN VALENTINI gave the Wolves a 3-1 lead. Shots on goal after 20 minutes favoured the Wolves 9-5.
It was a heated second period with four scrums and both teams tallying 46 minutes penalty minutes each. CARSON scored less than 7 minutes into the period shorthanded, after YAKIMOWICZ slid a cross net pass. ZACK BOWMAN stood tall making some huge saves to keep the Attack off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. The Wolves entered into the dressing room after the second period up 4-1.
The Attack switched goaltenders to close out the final 20 minutes. The Wolves carried the momentum into the third period, holding off the Attack through the final 20 minutes. DAVID LEVIN was centimeters away from making it 5-1 as he beat goaltender RILEY DANIELS five-hole but was robbed by the Attack defencemen. The Wolves beat the Attack by a 4-1 final with shots on goal 31-24 in favour of the Wolves.
