Darian Pilon Scores Two as Wolves Top Steelheads
The Wolves wrapped up a winning weekend Saturday as they evened the score in a rematch against Central Division rivals, the Mississauga Steelheads, at the Sudbury Community Arena. The Wolves were looking for revenge after the Steelheads had defeated them last Sunday in Mississauga. Darian Pilon had a two-goal game that helped the Wolves to a 3-2 victory over the Steelheads with final shots 41-34 in favour of Mississauga. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Macauley Carson, and Darian Pilon earned first, second, and third stars of the night for their outstanding performances.
An exciting first period gave the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Blake McConville energized the Wolves bench early in the game after he dropped the gloves with Callan Christner. Five minutes later, David Levin put the Wolves on the board at 13:52 and Darian Pilon followed up with a laser beam goal from the slot shortly after.
No goals in the second period allowed the Wolves to hold onto their 2-0 into the final frame. Just over three minutes into the third, Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett put the Steelheads on the board to cut the Wolves lead to one. Darian Pilon netted his second of the game to extend the Wolves lead to 3-1, firing an identical goal to his first of the night from the slot. In the final minute of the game, Owen Tippett matched his goal, also scoring his second of the night but that was not enough to tie it up forcing the Steelheads to drop the match 3-2.
The Wolves will look to extend their two game win-streak next Friday when they host the Peterborough Petes at 7:05pm. Tickets are on-sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office and online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
