Colts Edge Wolves in Pre Season Action
The Sudbury Wolves played the Barrie Colts in Collingwood at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena for some Tuesday night hockey action. After a tight, back and forth game between the division rivals, the Colts were the ones who came out on top as they edged the Wolves with a 4-3 final. Goal scorers from the Wolves included Anthony Tabak, Blake Murray, and Shane Bulitka.
A total of six Wolves players picked up points throughout the game, including Bulitka and Tabak who each notched their first goal of the pre-season. Murray’s goal came as his second exhibition goal with a two-point outing. He now leads the team with four points in three games.
A quick start for the Barrie Colts resulted in Ryan Suzuki scoring under a minute into the game, off the first play. The Colts added to their lead when Justin Murray netted a power play goal from Joey Keane and Lucas Chiodo. With the Wolves on the man-advantage, Tabak brought the Wolves within one as he capitalized on a rebound off a hard shot from the blue-line by Cole Candella.
In the second, the Wolves came out with fire as Murray netted a game tying goal with an assist from Kirill Nizhnikov. Minutes later, a nice play between Bulitka and Darian Pilon gave the Wolves the lead, as Bulitka made some nice moves in front of Kai Edmonds, before roofing the puck top shelf. Before the end of the period, Luke Bignell scored to tie the game at 3-3, where it stood heading into the intermission.
It was a deadlock with the score and shots on net, as both teams recorded 8 shots in both the first and second period, tied at 16-16 after two. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen played a solid game for the Wolves, making numerous solid saves.
Just over halfway through the final frame, Jason Willms gave the Colts the go-ahead goal they needed to solidify a 4-3 lead.
With NHL training camps opening this week, the Sudbury Wolves will continue their pre-season schedule next Thursday, September 13th when the Soo Greyhounds visit the Sudbury Arena.
