Murray Signs Entry-Level Deal with Hurricanes
(Greater Sudbury, ON) The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce that Blake Murray has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes today. Murray is now the 4th Sudbury Wolves’ NHL drafted player to sign an Entry-Level Contract in the last eight months.

Blake was the first player we drafted under the new ownership and he has been one of the top goal scorers in our league from all the 2001 born players drafted in 2017. On June 22nd, 2019, Murray was selected 183rd overall (6th round) by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2019 NHL Draft. This past season, Murray joined teammate Jack Thompson overseas on loan to Surahammars IF of HockeyEttan in Sweden. Over 16 games, he found the scoresheet 23 times, tallying seven goals and sixteen assists (7G,16A). Although it was a short stint in Sweden, Murray was able to make the most out of it, leaving the team ranked sixth for most team goals (7G) and fourth in team assists (16A).

Murray, Sudbury Wolves’ first choice (7th overall) in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, has a very high hockey IQ and is a big forward who can change the game in a single shot constantly being a danger to score. Murray went on to lead the Wolves offensively for the 2017-18 season with 44 points (21G-23A) and was awarded Wolves’ Bud Burke Top Rookie of the year. Murray consistently remained an offensive leader throughout his OHL career and was awarded Wolves’ Bill Plaunt Top Scorer for the 2018-19 season and Wolves’ Most Goals for both 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.
The 19-year-old, from Uxbridge, ON registered 72 points (35G, 37A) in 63 games for the Sudbury Wolves during the 2019-20 season. Murray concluded the shortened season third in team points and was first for Wolves in scoring with 35 goals. In 186 career games with the Wolves, Murray has recorded 166 points (86G, 80A).
Murray ranks fourth among all 2001 born players in goals scored (86G) and ranks seventh for total points scored since the 2017-18 season (166).
