Veterans Storm NHL Prospect Camps
Several Storm players are showcasing their talent at NHL prospect camps this month. This list includes ten players, the most since the 2013-14 OHL Championship team when 12 players attended, that are eligible to return to the Storm for the 2018-19 season.
Liam Hawel (DAL (2017) RD: 4 (#101)) and goaltender Anthony Popovich (DAL invited as a free agent) are headed to one of the biggest NHL Prospects tournaments, the Traverse City Tournament in Traverse City Michigan. This year Hawel and Popovich will play against fellow Storm teammates Alexey Toropchenko (STL (2017) RD:4 (#113)) and Cedric Ralph (CAR) who was invited as a free agent by the Carolina Hurricanes. All four will also face off against prospects from five other NHL teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers. Defenceman Ryan Merkley (SJ (2018) RD:1 (#21)) will face off against Nate Schnarr’s (ARI (2017) RD: 3 (#75)) Arizona Coyotes at the Vegas Rookie Faceoff that takes place Sept. 8th -11th in Las Vegas, NV. Prospects from the Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, Sharks and Coyotes will be on hand to play a round robin style tournament where each team plays three games. Cam Hillis (MTL (2018) RD:#3 (#66)) and Owen Lalonde (TOR free agent invitee) will take part in the NHL Rookie Showdown from September 7th-9th. The three team tournament that features the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators prospects will take place at Place Bell in Laval. Hillis and Lalonde faceoff against each other on the final day of play, September 9th at 3pm. Find the full schedule here.
Dmitri Samorukov (EDM (2017) RD: 3 (#84)) will square off against the Calgary Flames prospects in two friendlies once on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome at 2 p.m. and Wednesday on neutral ground at Red Deer’s Enmax Centrium at 7 p.m.
Last, but not least Isaac Ratcliffe (PHI (2017) RD: 2 (#35)) heads to Philadelphia for the Flyers Rookie Camp that will wrap-up on September 12th with a Prospects game against the New York Islanders.
The Storm continue exhibition season next Friday night as they travel to Mississauga before hosting the Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, September 15th for a 7pm start.
