Storm launch specialty military jerseys in partnership with Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln
The Guelph Storm are proud to officially unveil commemorative military jerseys to be worn on Saturday, November 7th against the North Bay Battalion, sponsored by Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln. In addition to a special pre-game ceremony in partnership with John McCrae Memorial Royal Canadian Legion Branch 234, the Storm will be wearing one-of-a-kind jerseys to commemorate the 11th Field Artillery Regiment, RCA.
“Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln is proud to support this meaningful, impactful initiative from the Guelph Storm. Not just around Remembrance Day, but year-round, it is important to reflect, remember, and acknowledge the debt of gratitude we all owe the brave people who served and continue to serve Canada,” said Doug Bricknell, General Manager, Wayne Pitman Ford Lincoln Promoting. “Literacy and helping future generations understand that freedom is not ‘free’, it comes at the price of hard work, sacrifice, and service above self, are important, worthwhile initiatives. As is supporting our local veterans and honouring Guelph’s contributions, heroes, and significant figures, such as Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. We commend the Storm for promoting causes bigger than “the game” and using their platform for good. It is our honour to support this cause, and we are grateful to be part of such a caring community.”
The 29th Field Battery, known as Headquarters, is located a short distance from the Sleeman Centre at 7 Wyndham Street. The first Guelph Artillery unit was created on July 20, 1866. That same year, a militia artillery in Wellington County was formed to meet a threat that was made to Canadians; this was the first of many units that gave Guelph a reputation as a “Gunner’s Town”.
The 11th Field Regiment remains a reserve unit from the Canadian Forces 31 Canadian Brigade Group, a unique element of the Canadian Forces, whose task is to augment Canada’s Regular Force military by providing indirect artillery support.
The commemorative jerseys will be worn as school visit jerseys throughout the season. Each season, the Guelph Storm proudly visits over 30 elementary schools in the Guelph and surrounding areas. The Champions for Education program features two elements, Read to Succeed and, special to this season, a Memorial Cup History presentation.
The new presentation covers Memorial Cup history, details of the Canadian Hockey League, and the city of Guelph’s bicentennial. The presentation, exclusive to this season, is a means to celebrate this rare and exciting opportunity with local students, while also honouring the past.
The commemorative jerseys will be available for auction at the conclusion of the 2026/2027 season. Keep an eye on Guelph Storm social media and website for more details.
