Storm acquire Pavel Gogolev and picks from Peterborough in exchange for Ryan Merkley
General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett announced Friday that the Storm have acquired forward Pavel Gogolev and several OHL Priority Selection choices from the Peterborough Petes, in exchange for defenseman Ryan Merkley.
Along with Gogolev, the Storm receive the following:

2021 3rd Round (WSR)
2022 4th Round (PBO) – Conditional
2023 2nd Round (PBO) – Conditional
2024 3rd Round (PBO) – Conditional
Gogolev, a native of Moscow, Russia, has posted 19 points in 29 games this season (seven goals, 12 assists) and has tallied 77 points in 148 games played since joining the Petes in 2016-17. Last season, he notched 30 goals and 17 assists in 66 games.
“Pavel is an excellent combination of size and skill, and is a proven goal scorer,” said Burnett. “To have this player in our lineup for the coming seasons is exciting for our organization.”
Gogolev was the Petes’ 1st round pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection (8th overall) and starred at the Canadian International Hockey Academy (CIHA) in Rockland, ON, before his OHL career.
Merkley joined the Storm via the 2016 OHL Priority Selection as the 1st overall pick, and has posted 161 points in 153 games with the Storm (30 goals, 131 assists). He was a 1st round selection of the San Jose Sharks in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
