Harpur recalled by Senators
Former Storm defencemen Ben Harpur was called up by the Ottawa Senators on Thursday morning from the team’s AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators. Harpur was a 4th-round pick (108th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. This season, he has a goal and four assists in 43 games with Binghamton. The 21 year old was an instrumental part of the Storm’s 2013-14 OHL Championship team. The Niagara-on-the- lake native played three and a half seasons in a Storm uniform recording 11 goals and 44 assists. He was traded to the Barrie Colts at the trade deadline in 2014-15.
Ben Harpur wore a wide smile in the hallway at the XCel Energy Center as he prepared to make his NHL debut Thursday night.
He will never forget the moment he was told he was being called up by Senators assistant GM Randy Lee on Wednesday night. By 6 a.m., the rookie defenceman, who is in his first year of pro, was on a flight to Minnesota from Binghamton while his family members were trying to get here from the Niagara region.
Blueliner Mike Kostka was banged up, which made room for Harpur.
