RECAP l Steelheads win 2 of 3
After seeing their five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in Hamilton, the Mississauga Steelheads battled to get back in the win column with a 6-2 victory over the Sarnia Sting on Sunday.
With Captain Cole Carter leading the way, the Steelheads went 2-1-0-0 in their first 3-in-3 weekend of the 2018-19 season. Carter registered five points this weekend including a hat trick against the Sting on Sunday. The Orleans, Ontario native has now recorded a point in every game since September 23 and leads the team in scoring with 14 points (10 goals, four assists) in nine games. Saturday, October 13th marked Carter’s 200th career OHL game.
With a five-point weekend, Ryan McLeod sits second in team scoring with 11 points (one goal, 10 assists). Since returning from the Edmonton Oilers, the Mississauga native has registered a point in every game. Defenceman Thomas Harley is also off to a hot start this season, recording five points in his last four games including two goals this past weekend. Rookie goaltender, Joe Ranger saw his first career start on Sunday against the Sting and recorded his first career OHL win with 22 saves.
With 13 points, the Steelheads (6-2-1-0) have moved into first place in the Central Division and second place in the Eastern Conference behind the Peterborough Petes (8-2-0-0). The team has another big weekend ahead as they face off against their Central Division rivals, the North Bay Battalion on Thursday before returning home to host the Petes on Friday and Ottawa 67’s on Sunday.
