SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Nothing Doing
MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads couldn’t get anything going as they got blanked 3-0 by the Sudbury Wolves to open the 2024 OHL Playoffs on Thursday night.
Chances on offence were few and far between for Mississauga. Ryerson Leenders made 28 saves in the effort.
Sudbury capitalized on a strong first period and hung on to their lead. Landon McCallum’s opener was the game winner, while Dalibor Dvorský added two goals of his own. Jakub Vondras made 32 saves in the shutout.
The Wolves struck first just two minutes into the game when McCallum scored on the rush with a wrist shot.
Sudbury doubled their lead with three minutes remaining in the first period when a cross ice pass found Dvorský on a 4 on 3 powerplay, and he buried the one-time opportunity.
The second period featured long stretches of back and forth hockey, with chances at both ends throughout.
Dvorský’s empty netter with two minutes left sealed the game.
