SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Fight Back
SUDBURY, ON – Jack Ivankovic makes 38 saves and the Mississauga Steelheads beat the Sudbury Wolves 4-2 in game three of their first round series on Monday night.
The win keeps Mississauga in the series, as they now trail Sudbury two games to one.
Lucas Karmiris scored two massive goals for the Trout, and Chas Sharpe added one as well. Porter Martone scored a clutch empty net goal, and Ivankovic’s spectacular performance led the way for Mississauga.
David Goyette and Landon McCallum scored for Sudbury in the losing effort. Jakub Vondras made 21 saves.
The Steelheads opened the scoring for a second straight game. Sharpe’s wrist shot from the point found its way through Vondras and in for an early power play marker.
Mississauga doubled their lead five minutes into the second period when a Sudbury turnover sent Karmiris in alone, and he tucked the puck around Vondras and in to make it 2-0.
Sudbury got one back soon after, capitalizing on a 5 on 3 power play. Goyette’s second of the playoffs got them back in the game.
McCallum’s goal from behind the net equalized for Sudbury. He banked the puck off Ivankovic and in at 13:10 of the second.
A beautiful shorthanded breakaway goal from Karmiris with four minutes remaining in the period sent the Trout to the locker room with a 3-2 lead.
Martone’s empty net goal with 30 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Steelheads.
