Steelheads Add Three New Prospects in 2024 OHL Under 18 Selection
MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Steelheads added three new prospects in the OHL’s Under 18 Selection on Wednesday night. Mississauga had the 13th, 33rd, and 50th overall picks in the draft.
With their first selection, the Steelheads drafted goaltender Alexander Armellin from Woodbridge, Ontario. The 2007-born goaltender spent the past season with the U18 Toronto Nationals. In the 2023 OHL Cup, he played four games for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens posting a .670 GAA and .972 SV% on route to winning the championship.
In the second round, Mississauga selected Maxwell Davidson. In 33 games played with the U18 London Jr. Knights, the 6′ 175 lbs defender put up 21 points (11G,10A). The London, Ontario native also participated in the 2023 OHL Cup registering an assist in 5 games with a plus 5 rating.
At 52nd overall the Steelheads picked their second defenceman of the draft, Tyler Braund from the U18 Vaughan Kings. The Woodbridge, ON native put up 7 points (2G, 5A) in 40 regular season games with his team. Braund also participated in the 2023 OHL Cup suiting up for the Ajax-Pickering Raiders.
Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond commented of the U18 Draft Class. “Alex is one of the best goalies in his age group. He has really developed over the last year and we look forward to seeing him compete at camp. Max is a strong skating right shot defeceman that won Defenceman of the Year. He has a high hockey IQ and transitions the puck very well. Tyler is a big strong defenceman that is tough to play against. He has a good stick in the defensive-zone.”
