SARNIA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads erased a two goal deficit and defeated the Sarnia Sting 6-3 on the road on Wednesday night.
The Trout bounced back from their tough loss on Tuesday and handled business against Sarnia without the services of Porter Martone or Luke Misa.
Mason Zebeski scored the game winning goal for the Steelheads (35-21-8-0). Chas Sharpe, Angus MacDonell, William Eggleton, Mason Zebeski and Lucas Karmiris also scored in the win. Jack Ivankovic made 26 saves in a strong performance.
The Sting (23-36-3-1) had a strong first period but were eventually outmatched. Zach Filak scored twice in the effort, and Cooper Way added a goal as well. Karsen Chartier made 30 saves.
Easton Wainwright created the first goal of the game, blowing by the Steelheads defence and finding Filak in front, who buried the chance to take the lead at 14:22 of the first.
The Sting doubled their lead soon after, when a pass from the point found Way in front on the power play and he slid the puck past Ivankovic to make it 2-0.
Sharpe got the Steelheads on the board for the second straight night, when a shot from the point found its way past Chartier on the power play.
A turnover at the Sting blueline sprung MacDonell on a breakaway at 12:37 of the second, and he deked Chartier before finishing five-hole to score against his former team and tie the game.
Just 68 seconds later, Eggleton drove into the zone alone and ripped a shot past Chartier, using the defender as a screen and giving the Trout the lead.
Eight minutes into the third period, Sharpe fired a point shot on net and Zebeski tipped it in, doubling the Steelheads lead.
Filak got one back for Sarnia soon after, entering the zone on the power play and ripping a shot past Ivankovic for his second of the game.
Adam Zidlicky iced the game for Mississauga on the power play, banging in a Finn Harding rebound that hit the post.
Karmiris was awarded a late empty net goal after being taken down on the shot attempt.
