SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Met Eggspectations
MISSISSAUGA, ON – William Eggleton’s two goal performance propelled the Mississauga Steelheads to a 3-2 win against the Niagara IceDogs on Friday night.
Eggleton’s game winner in the third period helped the Steelheads pick up an extremely valuable two points in their race for first place in the East.
Lucas Karmiris also scored for the Steelheads (36-21-8-0). Ryerson Leenders made 23 saves in the win.
Despite their best effort, the IceDogs (16-40-6-1) dropped their 10th straight game. Ryan Roobroeck and Mike Levin scored for Niagara, and Charlie Robertson made 40 saves in a valiant effort.
The IceDogs opened the scoring 14 minutes into the game, when Ryan Roobroeck took a pass at the blue line and ripped a shot past Leenders after sliding into the slot area.
Just 29 seconds into the second period, a shot off Dean Loukus’ stick created a rebound that Karmiris banged into the yawning cage to tie the game.
Niagara made it 2-1 halfway through the period when Levin found himself alone in the slot and beat Leenders to regain the lead.
Eggleton leveled the game for the Trout at 12:23 of the second, when Marc Boudreau fed him in the slot and he wired it past Robertson.
The Steelheads took the lead with just six minutes remaining in the third period, when Chas Sharpe held the line and fired a shot on net that Eggleton perfectly tipped past the outstretched goaltender and in.
