SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Can’t win them all
BARRIE, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads seven game point streak came to an end as they fell 4-1 to the Barrie Colts on Saturday night.
Despite outshooting the Colts by 20, the Trout (29-21-6-0) couldn’t muster more than one goal, scored by Parker Von Richter. Jack Ivankovic made 20 saves in the effort.
The Colts (23-28-3-0) were led by goaltender Sam Hillebrandt, who was spectacular and made 43 saves. Beau Jelsma scored two goals including the game winner, while Bode Stewart and Zach Wigle added tallies of their own.
A scoreless first period saw the Steelheads outshoot the Colts 11-5 and control play, despite two Barrie power play opportunities.
The Colts opened the scoring at 14:55 of the second period when a Steelheads turnover at the offensive blueline sparked a three on two chance for Barrie, and Stewart made a strong move through the crease and tucked the puck past Ivankovic.
Jelsma and Michael Derbirdge combined for a pretty two on one goal just two minutes later to double Barrie’s lead.
Wigle finished off a passing sequence in front of the net to make it 3-0 Barrie just 35 seconds into the third period.
The Steelheads finally got on the board with five minutes left in the game, when a Von Richter point shot snuck through Hillebrandt and rolled just across the line.
Jelsma put the game away with an empty netter.
