SmartStop Post-Game Recap – All Good Things
MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads allow four power play goals for the second straight game and lose 6-2 to the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night.
The loss ends the Steelheads first round series with Sudbury and eliminates them from the OHL playoffs.
Angus MacDonell and Jack Van Volsen scored the goals for Mississauga. Jack Ivankovic made 26 saves in the effort.
Nick Deangelis had two goals, including the game winner. David Goyette, Alex Pharand, Evan Konyen and Quentin Musty added goals as well. Marcus Vandenberg made 26 saves in the win.
Sudbury opened the scoring for the first time since game one less than three minutes into the game. Pharand drove to the net and roofed a backhand shot over a screened Ivankovic to make it 1-0.
The Wolves made it 2-0 halfway through the first period when Konyen fired in a loose puck from the slot on the power play.
MacDonell cut the Wolves lead in half five minutes later, tipping in a point shot from Porter Martone on the power play.
Mississauga tied the game just over two minutes into the second period. Marc Bourdeau got the puck to Van Volsen in front, and he buried the 2 on 1 opportunity.
DeAngelis took the lead back for Sudbury at 14:49 of the 2nd. His point shot on the power play found the inside of the post and deflected in.
Musty doubled the Wolves lead two minutes into the third period when he flew down the wing and fired a shot off the post and in on the power play.
DeAngelis scored his second power play goal of the game from the point at 13:29 of the third.
Goyette’s empty netter sealed the game.
