Colts Hold The Reins In Shutout Win Over Brampton
BARRIE, ON – The Brampton Steelheads kicked off their two road games this weekend with the first stop in Barrie.
The Steelheads came out strong in the first period, generating multiple scoring chances, but it was the Barrie Colts who charged first and opened the scoring at the 3 minute mark.
Barrie’s Gabriel Eliasson took an early penalty, giving Brampton a power-play opportunity. The Steelheads applied pressure, with Zach Bowen continuing his strong run of form.
Later in the Period, Manuel Amado was sent to the penalty box, and the Colts capitalized as Emil Hemming scored at 16:24.
To start off the second period, Joe Salandra was sent to the penalty box at 6:51 for roughing, giving the Steelheads another chance to build momentum on the power play.
Moments later, Sam Black and Ty Daniels took back-to-back penalties, giving the Barrie Colts two power plays in the second period.
Bowen continued to stand out for the Steelheads, creating chances and driving the pace with strong puck movement and relentless forechecking.
The third period opened with mild, back and forth pace as both teams traded possession early.
Although the puck spent much of the period in the Brampton Zone, Bowen and the Steelheads defense stood strong, breaking up players and limiting Barrie’s chances.
With 11 minutes remaining, Amado and Nicholas Desiderio dropped the gloves resulting in a power play opportunity for the Steelheads as they looked to shift momentum late in the game.
The Steelheads came up short, falling 2-0 to the Colts. The Steelheads will be heading to Niagara to take on the Niagara IceDogs tomorrow.
The Brampton Steelheads will be back at the CAA Centre on January 31st for our annual Kids Takeover Game!
