2024-25 CHL Top-10 Rankings: Week 7
Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 7 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.
Having extended their point streak to eight games (7-0-1-0) with a pair of victories last week, the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) are in the No. 1 spot for a fifth week in a row. Riding a nine-game winning streak, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) are up to second in this week’s rankings, while the reigning QMJHL champion Drummondville Voltigeurs are down one spot in third.
Among the biggest movers and shakers of the week were a pair of clubs from the Western Hockey League (WHL) – the Prince George Cougars and the Tri-City Americans. Having collected a point in seven consecutive contests (5-0-1-1), the Cougars are back in the top five for the first time since October 22. Meanwhile, currently on the longest winning streak in the CHL this season at 12 victories in a row, the Americans are making their CHL Top-10 debut this season in eighth.
The next rankings will be released the week of November 18, following the eighth week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.
CHL Top-10 Rankings – Week 7
1. Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL): As one of only two teams in the CHL with 15 wins this season, the Moncton Wildcats (15-2-2-0) continue to sit atop the rankings for what is now the fifth week in a row. With a pair of victories over Acadie-Bathurst (5-1) and Baie-Comeau (2-1) over the last seven days, the Wildcats have now registered a point in eight straight games (7-0-1-0). Moncton has allowed only one goal in three straight contests, and they currently hold the best goal differential of any club in the CHL at +46 along with allowing a CHL-best 2.26 goals per game. 2025 NHL Draft prospect Caleb Desnoyers (12G-13A in 15 GP), who is one of 13 forwards set to represent Team CHL at the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota Canada from November 26-27, continued his strong play. Desnoyers is currently on a seven-game point streak, and although his six-game goal streak came to a close on Sunday – the six consecutive games with a goal stands as the longest streak of its kind in the QMJHL this season. This week, the Wildcats will aim to maintain their place on top of these rankings and the QMJHL standings when they face the Sea Dogs and the Islanders. Specifically, the Wildcats contest Thursday against Saint John is the CHL Game of the Week, and it will be available to watch for free on CHL TV when the puck drops at 7:00 p.m. AT.

2. London Knights (OHL): With nine straight victories, the longest active winning streak in the OHL, the London Knights (12-4-0-0) are up to their highest ranking of the season at No. 2. The Knights have collected nine wins over their last 10 games as they have shot up the OHL standings over the last couple of weeks. During their three victories last week, London tallied at least five goals, outsourcing their opponents 19-10. San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson (11G-14A in 15 GP) led the way for the Knights, registering eight points (4G-4A) in those three games. The latter was highlighted by Dickinson scoring his second hat-trick of the season against the Battalion during London’s 6-2 win on Friday. For his efforts, Dickinson was named the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week yesterday, and he currently leads all CHL defencemen in goals (11G) and points (25 PTS) this season. Meanwhile, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan (10G-7A in 13 GP) extended his regular-season point streak to 49 games on Sunday by tallying an empty-netter. Additionally, Edmonton Oilers prospect William Nicholl (6G-13A in 17 GP) had a goal and an assist against North Bay, before registering a career-high four points (1G-3A) on Sunday against Guelph. This week, London will look to extend its winning streak to 10 games when they face the Sting and Storm this weekend.

3. Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL): As one of only three teams in the CHL with at least 14 wins, the Drummondville Voltigeurs (14-4-1-1) continue to hold a spot in the top three of the CHL Top-10 Rankings. Over the last week, the Voltigeurs’ only loss came at the hands of the 2025 Memorial Cup hosts Rimouski Océanic (6-3) on Friday night. Drummondville made sure to rebound two nights later by edging the Remparts (6-5) in a shootout. By splitting those two games, the Voltigeurs now have seven wins over their last ten. Over that stretch of games and more, Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Ethan Gauthier (9G-13A in 22 GP) has been stellar. The 19-year-old forward has collected at least one point in 11 straight games, which matches the longest point streak in the QMJHL this season. Drummondville captain Luke Woodworth (6G-24A in 18 GP) extended his point streak to seven games, as he continues to lead the QMJHL with 24 assists and 11 power-play helpers this season. Additionally, in their victory over Québec, 20-year-old forward Sam Oliver (16G-8A in 20 GP) tallied his 15th and 16th goals of the season, placing him one shy of the QMJHL leader Justin Poirier (17G) from Baie-Comeau. This week, the Voltigeurs will begin at home with a contest against the Catarctes, before they hit the road to face Baie-Comeau and No.10-ranked Chicoutimi.

4. Prince George Cougars (WHL): With points in seven straight games (5-0-1-1), the Prince George Cougars (11-4-3-2) are back in the top five for the first time since October 22. To start their week, the Cougars dropped a 5-4 contest in overtime against the Saskatoon Blades, before scoring a pair of victories against the Vancouver Giants (7-1 & 5-4). Los Angeles Kings prospect Koehn Ziemmer (17G-7A in 13 GP) had a strong week, registering seven goals and one assist over three games, including his second hat-trick in 10 days. Ziemmer’s performance was recognized by the WHL yesterday as he was named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Borya Valis (10G-19A in 18 GP) and Minnesota Wild prospect Riley Heidt (8G-21A in 16 GP) both lead the team in scoring with 29 points. Heidt has registered three consecutive multi-point outings, while Valis has points in eight of his last nine contests. Although he gave up five goals on 34 shots against the Blades, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Joshua Ravensbergen (10-1-3-1 record, 2.96 GAA, .904 SV% in 15 GP) bounced back by turning aside 29-of-30 shots in a 7-1 Cougars victory over the Giants. Set to represent Team CHL at the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota Canada from November 26-27, Ravensbergen continues to only hold one regulation loss to his name this season. This week, Prince George will welcome Kelowna for a pair of home games at the CN Centre.

5. Everett Silvertips (WHL): Having defeated Calgary (5-3) and Red Deer (6-1) over the last few days, the Everett Silvertips (15-3-1-0) continue to occupy fifth in the CHL Top-10 Rankings. Their only loss of the week came at the hands of the No.8-ranked Tri-City Americans, who registered an 8-6 win on Friday night. Along with the Moncton Wildcats, Everett is one of only two teams in the CHL with 15 wins. 20-year-old forward Tyler MacKenzie (17G-15A in 19 GP) extended his point streak to 13 games by registering three straight multi-point contests last week. MacKenzie ranks second in the WHL in both goals and scoring, while 2025 NHL Draft prospect Carter Bear (16G-16A in 19 GP) also has a team-high 32 points on the season. Bear is one of 13 forwards set to participate in the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota Canada. Meanwhile, 15-year-old defenceman Landon DuPont (5G-12A in 15 GP) made his return to the lineup on Monday night after competing with Canada Red at the 2024 World U17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, Ont. During their 6-1 Silvertips’ victory on Monday over the Rebels, DuPont marked his return by tallying his fifth goal of the season. This week, the Silvertips have one lone road game on the calendar against the Thunderbirds.

6. Windsor Spitfires (OHL): With losses in two of their last three, the Windsor Spitfires (13-4-1-0) have slipped to sixth in this week’s latest rankings. Despite the pair of losses, Windsor still holds seven wins over their last 10 games with their latest being a 4-1 victory on Sunday over the Peterborough Petes. Over the last week, the Spitfires saw Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas (11G-8A in 15 GP) score his team-leading 11th goal of the season, while Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree (9G-22A in 17 GP) recorded his 31st point, which continues to place Greentree among the top-three scorers in the OHL. Part of the Spitfires’ struggles over the last week could in part be attributed to the absence of Ethan Belchetz, Jean-Christoph Lemieux, and Carter Hicks, who were all away in Sarnia competing for Canada at the World U17 Hockey Challenge. Specifically, at the U17s, Lemieux (2G-5A) led all CHL players in scoring at the tournament with seven points in five games. This week, as Windsor welcomes back Lemieux along with Belchetz and Hicks to their lineup, they’ll hit the road for games against the Battalion, Wolves and Greyhounds.

7. Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL): With wins in two of three games last week, the Rimouski Océanic (12-6-0-1) are up one spot in seventh in this week’s rankings. Following a hard-fought loss to No.10-ranked Chicoutimi (3-2), the 2025 Memorial Cup hosts tallied an impressive 6-3 victory over the No.3-ranked Voltigeurs before edging the Sea Dogs 4-3 to close out the weekend. After being held off the scoresheet over consecutive for the first time since February 28-29, Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford (8G-22A in 17 GP) registered an assist in all three Rimouski games last week. Anaheim Ducks prospect Alexandre Blais (8G-16A in 17 GP) also registered a point in all three contests, collecting a total of five points (2G-3A) over the last week. Captain Jacob Mathieu (13G-9A in 16 GP) stole the spotlight during Friday’s victory over the Voltigeurs, as he scored his second hat-trick of the season. This week, Rimouski will close out a six-game homestand with a contest against the Remparts on Wednesday night, before traveling to play a pair of games in Québec City and Victoriaville this weekend.

8. Tri-City Americans (WHL): Riding a CHL-best 12-game winning streak, having extended last night with a 6-5 overtime victory over the Hitmen, the Tri-City Americans (13-3-1-0) find themselves in the CHL Top-10 Rankings for the first time this season. Their current winning streak has skyrocketed the Americans up the standings, as they currently sit tied with the Cougars for second place in the WHL standings. Over the last week, 20-year-old Brandon Whynott (11G-13A in 17 GP) extended his point streak to 12 games, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Jordan Gavin (8G-10A in 17 GP) registered his fourth multi-game in a row, while 20-year-old Carter MacAdams (6G-15A in 16 GP) has points in five straight contests. Additionally, during the Americans’ pair of victories in the last seven days, rookie Gavin Garland (10G-11A in 16 GP) recorded a pair of goals and an assist. The 18-year-old Garland leads all WHL rookies with 10 goals and 21 points. This week, the Americans will look to extend their impressive winning streak when they travel through Saskatchewan for a pair of games against the Raiders and Blades this weekend.

9. Kitchener Rangers (OHL): With one victory over their last three games, the Kitchener Rangers (13-3-2-1) slipped a couple of places to find themselves ninth in this week’s rankings. Before they fell 3-2 to a surging Oshawa Generals team on Sunday, the Rangers had collected a point in 16 straight games. Over that 16-game stretch, Kitchener managed to string 10 wins in a row, which helped carry them to first place in the OHL standings. Over the last week, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Luca Romano (12G-10A in 19 GP) extended his point streak to seven games, having also scored a goal in each of those contests (9G-5A over that stretch). Additionally, Vegas Golden Knights prospect Trent Swick (9G-12A in 14 GP) is currently on a five-game point streak with goals in four of his last five contests. This week, Romano and Swick will look to carry on their streak as the Rangers prepare to welcome the Petes to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium before they travel to face the Sting in Sarnia.

10. Chicoutimi Saguenéens (QMJHL): Although their seven-game winning streak came to a close on Friday night, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens (12-4-2-2) won their other two contests last week to maintain their place among the CHL Top-10 Rankings. One of their victories was an impressive 3-2 win over the No.7-ranked Océanic in Rimouski – which helped make the Sags one of just two teams in the QMJHL with eight wins over their last 10 games. Loïc Usereau (5G-17A in 18 GP) was a star for Chicoutimi last week as the 19-year-old forward registered six points (1G-5A) in three games, which included recording a pair of three-point games. 2025 NHL Draft prospect Nathan Lecompte (7G-11A in 20 GP) continued his strong play, scoring a goal in all three of the Sags’ games last week. Lecompte, who was one of the 155 CHL players identified on the NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch List for the 2025 NHL Draft, now has points over five straight games – having accrued five goals and three assists over that stretch. This week, Chicoutimi will look to continue to keep pace with the likes of Moncton and Drummondville at the top of the QMJHL standings when they welcome the Phoenix and the No.3-ranked Voltigeurs to Centre Georges-Vézina this weekend.
